Brake master cylinder

Hello,

I believe my master cylinder has failed, as the almost new fluid has turned black and the pedal is unpredictable (occasionally goes to floor, will sometimes drop under sustained pressure, but mostly ok).

Got a new one on order. For fitting, if I (gently) clamp the braided clutch master feed hose out the side of the brake fluid reservoir and make sure it stays high up in the dashboard will I manage to avoid bleeding the clutch? Only ask as the bleed nipple is ready to shear off under the weight of my gaze let alone a spanner!

If the fluid is black perhaps it would be better to replace the clutch slave, then bleed everything so fresh fluid is in the brake and clutch systems.

For any future searchers, the answer was there was no need to bleed the clutch - just clamped off the big flexible braided feed hose, changed the cylinder, refilled with fluid and unclamped hose.
