Hi,
I see that there are those extinguisher tube thingies from Just Kampers etc that are ~£250, and are easily mounted in the engine.

Is there any reason not to use the cheaper automatic dry powder units? For example: https://www.firesafetystore.co.uk/fire- ... inguisher/ fitted sideways on?

I understand that dry powder can be harmful to electrics, and it's a pain to clean up, but if the thing's been on fire then those are not high priority issues. The engine accessories are going to need a going over anyway.

I guess having to clean off some powder / replacing some electrics is better than watching your van burn down.

The 2m one on JK is £150 and if you value your van that's not a lot IMO. I Have one like the JK one and I paid more than that when I bought it some years ago. And it fits nicely under the engine lid.

Regular maintenance is better for fire prevention

The same tubular automatic extinguishers are available in different brands just cheaper. Around £100. At least here in Hungary.
Some Polish and Czech made brands. The czech Cervinka calls their model Car Viper. Same stuff in the US is sold as Proteng.
I am not sure if they available in the UK.

Ah OK that's a lot cheaper than the one I saw, I'll have a look.

Be really careful to check the ethanol rating of any fuel hose before you buy. Fuel hoses conforming to the SAE 30R9 or SAE 30R14 specifications only need to be rated for 5% (E5) ethanol content to meet the specification requirements, and fuel in the UK now has at least 10% (E10) ethanol content.

The good manufacturers will make their fuel hoses so that they exceed the requirements of R9 or R14 - for example the stuff that Brickwerks sell, or a product like Gates Barricade, which are rated for 100% (E100) ethanol content.

E D I T: I can’t comment on whether it fits your engine- that’s outside of my knowledge.

In terms of fuel comparability - the fuel hose they sell is all 100% (E100) ethanol rated - see this blogpost.

Best thing would be to send them an email to check, both about the ethanol rating and whether it would fit your engine: sales@brickwerks.co.uk
