Well it was bound to happen sometime the old 2 way Electrolux fridge thermocouple has gone whilst on holiday in Southport. Anyone know where I could get one locally Preston or somewhere near?

Ebay - universal one just make sure you get one long enough to reach. Keep the fittings from yours as there isn't usually the correct one amongst the supplied ones.
I always keep a few spares having had one fail on my boiler on xmas eve of all times.

Can these be cleaned, i had a problem with an old boiler once, there was a lot of soot build up on where the thermocouple sat in the pilot light flame, gave it a good cleaning and it lasted a couple more years.

If you have taken the trouble to get to the thermocouple it is just as easy to replace. They are cheap enough. If you have soot on one it is most likely the boiler is in dire need of service as you only get soot if there is incomplete combustion which can lead to CO production.

Good old ebay. Problem is I'm on a camp site at Southport? So any stockists of fridge bits near here?

Just going to suggest Screwfix  but David beat me to it, they have what they call a universal one, not sure about the compatibility though.

Screwing is 2.8 miles away. Just ordered one £5.68. Excellent idea thanks. Will post how it fits later on.

Do you mean that the dogging site is 2.8 miles away?
Did you measure the depth and height of the fridge to get the length needed.

Ha ha . Well the universal thermo couple is fitted but screw thread's were wrong. So had to use old one slotted to fit. Jubily clip to hold coupler in place so it works now.

Well it is the original 39 year old devon fridge so what can I expect. So need a replacement. Modern fridges are too big to fit in the Devon, so I need a replacement the same width height etc. HELP

Cant recall if we are talking about an absorption fridge, if so take it out turn it upside down for a bit longer than you tried.  Then back to normal position and leave for a couple of hours.  This normally resets the chemicals.  Ive done this a couple of times and it works fine.  Just reread your post so its been tried already, I remember one time I tried this method it did not work, however the next time it did.

Upside overnight then right way up overnight before retest was what I was taught. It takes ages for the crystals to percolate down and get reabsorbed.
