Engine oil (Halfrauds Classic)

Hi everyone,

It probably been asked a mile times discussed over and over again about which oil for which engine etc.

I have tried the Halfords classic 20W50 for a change as it’s the most easily accessible and cheapest one I can find over here in Ireland works out around €25 for 5 litres.

I have noticed since changing to it from Morris Golden film SAE 30 it’s a lot more Smokey on start up that could be for many reasons but I said I’d put it out here and ask what your preference is.

For reference I have 2.0 CU air-cooled Westfalia.

Thanks!

15w40 mineral is what I use, don't mix and match by mixing different types is the rule i believe, loads of info on the wiki and on other threads, it normally pops up as "oh no not another engine oil question" Just to add the only problem I have is which maker to buy from, last oil change I used Car Lube from GSF but they don't sell it any more.

Has anyone tried Mannol oil? They do a 20W50 mineral oil in 20L cans delivered for under £60. Delivery to Eire is an extra £11, but around £70 for five oil changes and some left for topping up is tempting.
This is from an eBay shop based in Milton Keynes.

I use Valvoline VR1 20/50 mineral oil year round. Drop it out religiously every 6 months and replace the filter at the same time. It costs £35 a pop but worth it in my opinion (there are plenty of reviews on it).

How much more smokey is it as I wouldn’t have thought this should have made a difference. Can you post up a vid if possible.
