Having just purchased the above van..it broke down on the 2nd day. Turns out it was the inhibitor switch in the gear lever cowling. When you switched from p to n...turning the key it fired up. So..replaced the switch.
I had also noticed it was turning over slowly. Yesterday..nothing. Done a battery test...came up with replace! Everytime I turned the key...the volts plummeted. New battery connected today. Still won't start. All the lights come on...turn the key..loud clicking from relay 18. Is this significant?
Checked the wires on the starter...look ok...tapped it and solenoid...still nothing...
I have checked the archives...just need a starting point. Volts on new battery 14.4.

Not sure about autos but on manuals theres usually a large ground cable on the gearbox to the body near the starter as without it if I recall you don't get very fast turnover or anything at all, could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time. 

Starter cable naff. Or starter motor failed.
Get someone to turn ignition and have a feel (safely) around the starter motor. If it begins to get hot then cable or earth is failing.
Take off starter and test it.

Could be a lazy starter. I have had it happen on my auto a couple of times. It's worth buying another as a spare even if yours turns out to be ok.viewtopic.php?f=17&t=173871

Earth strap gearbox to chassis has been taken off cleaned and put back.

Earth straps cleaned and put back. Connectors on solenoid very corroded...replaced. Still will not start.
Starter motor packed up?

See the link I posted for a S/H one. Or you can get a refurbed one from ECP for £200 ish. As I said, it's always good to have a spare.

I ended up buying a Wosp high torque starter motor and its been great.
Ours is now a Subaru conversion and it turns this over nice and quick alot better than the original Auto starter on the 2.1 dj.
