does anyone know if the rubber / plastic base of the carb can be purchased and where from?
I took off the carb earlier whilst explaining the stopping at junctions whilst warming up and he spotted the carb was moving too much eg not properly connected, it also has a split about 2 inches long in the side of this flexible connector.
thanks

Possible Part Nos.
DG (Gasket) 025 129 799 C
DF (Int Flange) 0125 129 761
Yours is a DG? Diagram on ETKA shows 'thick' gasket for ..... 799 C

yes DG it is about an inch thick the carb is bolted to it from the inside and it has 4 (8mm I suppose) holes to mount it onto the inlet manifold, I cannot see any actual splits/leaks all the way through it, but it is wobbly on top of the engine. and was suprisingly easy to remove.
thanks I will check the part number with VW on monday.

grrrrrrr this part is nothing like the part I have... this part is for a DG but the etka diagram shows that my engine is a DF or DY...? the actual part is the
DF (Int Flange) 0125 129 761 = £50
thanks harrymann, I really did assume I had a DG, the haynes manual exhaust set up is a DG I am sure of that, although I definitely have the inlet manifold ( a spikey heater, and 4 bolts and the huge rubber flange )
btw... if anyone wants the DG carb gasket let me know, I had to keep it as it is under a tenner and a part number I chose instead of they supplying.
so a couple of things if I indeed have a DF engine what is it?
and another thing after joining it all back up again with the original bits it idled perfectly well until I placed the air box back onto the carb, I could sense it struggling for air...? the air filter looked fine.. is this a vaccum problem or other blockage, as soon as I removed the air box from the top it idled away again effortlessy.
thanks

TRy it with the air box without the filter?

ok I will give it a go, so I looked in the haynes and the only difference is quite a bit of power I get 47Kw pierburg DG get 55Kw.
I do have a solex pict 34-5 I know because I cleaned it whilst it was out. I assume this is the only difference, does this mean that if I buy a DG engine without inlet manifold mine will still fit???
and also if I get a DG engine will my electrics still work?

Not too sure but I think there may be a difference in the size of the inlet or exhaust valves between the DF and DG.

The DF has smaller inlet and exhaust valves and the carb is a single choke affair.. It will have the same exhaust system as a DG (early) or the even the later style.
To be honest you should have mentioned what carb in the first post.. and looked at your engine number to see what code it says.. (Although that doesnt always tell the truth unless you know its the original engine!)
That way people can point you in a more accurate direction. the DF is very uncommon here in the UK (dont know where you are as your profile isnt filled in)
I should have thought fitting a much more common DG carb and manifold would be an easy route out of any issues. but I dont know if it would be jetted quite right..
But..
Have you cleaned out the carb and jets?
Checked the timing?
checked the vac advance is working?
Made sure there are no vac leaks on the manifold and fittings?
checked that the inlet pipework isnt obstructed with a foreign body?
After all of this, perhaps the idle is set too low or co (idle mix) is set to high..
Fill in your profile so we know where you are and maybe there is a member that is close by that can lend a hand...
If you are going to the trouble of fitting a DG engine then get all the rest of the components to fit, as the DF carb will be way too small...

There ya go.. all the info you need!
Nothing affects carb size and jetting like inlet valve size (er, and engine capacity

)
.. and maybe put a few details in your profile as Simon says, it helps

GSF cheaper than vw £19.50

part no 18317 (Looks like the part, don't know for sure, give them a bell if unsure)

hello, right now when I bought the camper the vacuum pipe was disconnected as shown, I disconnected this same pipe yesterday and fingers crossed look like it maybe the problem..... it is sucking but the rubber is being sucked in under the pressure, it seemed to idle to high whilst warming up with this disconnected. could this be the problem or was I just lucky and drve stall free for the first time in 5 months?
I assume the pipe is joined to the bit that deterimines where the air comes from? inside the engine bay or outside?
I will check the GSF part but it is all joined up again and appears okay something for next month perhaps...

Didn't you originally say the flexible connector had a split about 2" long?
What is being sucked in, the connector rubber piece?
