Got a new set of wheels fitted the other month, Only just got around to fitting the spare under the van only to find it wont sodding fit.

The wheel in question is a Granada scorpio wheel. Anyone else had the same problem ?

I was told by someone (on this site I think) that it would fit.....It wont.

Yep both ways. Im a bit miffed as it's not much bigger than standard, and ive not gone over the top on tyre size.

Still wheels look nice...and Im sure the AA man is gonna love um as Im stuck on the side of the Rd this summer with a flat.

and take some spare wheelnuts/studs

you'll have to stick a standard wheel back in , and carry both spare nuts and studs for it

Yep but it's nice to have the spare under the van. Due to the fact that you have loads o f crap on board when you camp.

Can't you alter the length/depth/width of the cradle?

Longer bolt in the cradle? the 'latch' may not engage but at least you may be able to carry the wheel.

I have 195/70 x15 tires fitted, it was a bit of tight squeeze but it went in with a good shove and a grunt. I guess if your tires are bigger then the longer bolt may be the way to go.

There is a different carrier for the 205/70 tyres on velle alloys, which sits about 40mm lower at the front and has a longer latch to compensate - unfortunately these are very rarely recovered when velles so equipped are scrapped so are hard to come by. Also the two bars over the top are different too, very . I found it possible to fit a 205R14C using a 205 carrier and taking the bars out and using bolts on the hinge.
These parts are available from VW and the 205 wheel carrier has come down in price recently.
Also applies to the syncro, the M478 drop down wheel carrier has halved in price from vw - still not cheap but probably still cheaper than getting someone to make one if they had one to copy in the first place.
