Injection Pump Timing Kit

Hi everyone, I hope you're all doing well.
I need to replace the diesel injection pump on my van, as mine is knackered. I have a working pump to replace it with, but understand I need to set the pump timing once it's all swapped over.

I've never done pump timing before, so need to know what equipment to buy and if it's a straight forward job to do!

Cheers,
HC.

Cheers davidoft, just had a quick read of the post. Doesn't seem to go into detail about setting the pump timing itself? Did you think i was asking about TDC and fitting the belt? I've sorted all that, belt needs to come off again to fit a new pump though!

Set the pump initially as in the thread, then set the pump properly once it’s fitted

You need a dti and the adapter to fit Otto the back of the pump

In the back of the pump in the middle of the injector pipes is a plug, that’s where the dti needs to fit

Loosen off the cam pulley

Put the cam timing tool into the back of the cam ( it’s not a locking tool, if you use it as one to undo the cam pulley bolt your likely to break the back off the cam)

Crank timing to the mark

With the dti in the back of the pump turn the pulley until you have 1.2mm lift

Refit the belt, Tighten the cam pulley , turn the engine over 2 turns by hand set up to the timing marks and recheck the lift on the dti, if it’s still 1.2 all good , if not repeat until it does, you may have to deviate from the lift to make up for pump wear. See how it runs and adjust according

Cheers davidoft, I think i've got it. :ok

So, the only extra equipment I need for pump timing is the DTI tool and adaptor(s)?

Yeah , well assuming you have the cam and pump locking tools, though the pump locking tool is just a pin and a flat bar in the cam
