A few words about the condition of this flywheel.

1, You should replace a flywheel when you replace a clutch.

2, This flywheel, although not scored, does have black heat marks, possibly from a poor clutch slave or it can happen if you leave your foot on the clutch whilst driving.

So if I’d known this at the time, (I’m writing this update 2 years later) I would have changed it. It’s fine in the forward gears but judders in reverse. You can live with it, I have been; but I’ll definitely change it out next time.

This tool from the disk cutter, stops fly wheel rotating. I did find my hex socket in the end and these got 110Nm.

Very brittle o-ring. Felt washer (dust prevention) was missing.

Over tightened and snapped. Only needs 20Nm. Drilled it out, only took a few minutes. No dramas.

Clutch bearing and a smear of grease on shaft.

Ready to go on. Can’t do it on my own with a jack, so put the VW search light up for local support...

Ready.

They both go on the same terminal, t25 has a very long stud to accommodate that thick terminal

Thanks. I came to the same conclusion too. I’ve put some grease on, to stop any moisture.

Clutch slave on, but this hydraulic plastic feed pipe is rock solid so it won’t go on, tried a little bit of heat, but no go. May have to replace this line.
The plastic boot for the pin to clutch release arm disintegrated.

Electrics...

This amplifier socket is missing so I’ve bought a 2nd hand one off the bay of fleas.

Re-wired the amplifier plug, with those ‘standard/junior timer’ connectors. Bit of a faff, but a nice crimp! Punched out the old crimps.

Where does the blue wire for the alternator go?

Image

...and a chunky red & black wire? Starter maybe, pin 50

Image

Ok, so blue will go onto spade on back of alternator.

Just learning as I go.
