piston orientation

Hi I am in the process of rebuilding the pistons on a 1.9 DG. Like a fool I have got the pistons mixed up through not concentrating when I put the new rings on them....I also had not realised I had 2 different sets of pistons until I cleaned them up and could see the markings clearly.
I have 2 pistons with a + mark and 2 pistons with a - mark.
The two + pistons are the same make (Mahle) and the two minus pistons are the same make (KS). I am assuming (and please correct me if I have this completely wrong!!) that the two pluses go on the same side and the two minuses on the opposite side.
I have worked out where two of them were originally positioned, a + and a - on opposite sides of the engine.
My question is, with the arrows pointing to the flywheel, should the arrows be at the top or bottom of the piston, or does it not matter?
