Was under the front of the van doing a brake pipe whrn i spotted rust under the wheel arch.

Lifted the mat up and it was all around the seat belt bolt. I gave it a big tug and it tore away from the arch!! taking a match box size chunk with it.

My plan it to just cut back any more rust and plate/weld over the hole.

Can i just drill and bolt the seat belt back how it was? (i'd use thicker steel as a mount.)

...it'd be worth checking the MOT rules too.

Something about rust being a certain distance from seatbelt mounting points. I seem to think 30cm rings a bell, but might be wrong.

Just that if you're cutting + welding, you only want to have to do it once!

I have a steel plate just for this job made of galvanised 1/4 plate.

dimensions are 4" X 2" X 1/4" with a 12 mm hole . You can bolt it to the wheel arch or weld it

I'll post a pic up ASAP
