It's very hard to put a price on vans because it's usually down to what people are willing to pay.
Bought mine last year
1983 petrol hightop autohomes conversion.
Had been resprayed and had a new engine.
Inside was functional but tired looking.
It had a years MOT
Paid £3500
So far I have:
Fitted Saab seats
Put in a new clutch
Replaced CV joints
Replaced brake flexi hoses
Fitted bike rack
Oil change and service
Replaced handbrake cable
Fitted front fog lights
Put it through MOT.

I thought it was worth it, still do.
If you like the van you are looking at, can afford it, and think it will do what you want it to do ( and if the beds comfy)

Just realised you was quoting Euros 5900 which works out to about £3658 sterling.
Sounds fine, as I said mine cost £3500 and sounds similar to yours regarding condition etc.
I wouldn't say you were paying over the odds for it from the description.
If it feels right, it probably is, there is normally some ongoing expense with these things, but that's part of the hobby.
Just make sure it's not got major body rot anywhere, and check the clutch is not slipping like mine was
Find out how all the inside camping bits work, and have some fun.

reckon sometimes u got to go with ur gut feeling. we did with ours. never had a vw before and new very little about them, but have had no regrets, and got lucky in that it is a fab van

Just remember that no major rust elsewhere on these vehicles can mean that the rust is present but is working it's way from the inside out. I realise when buying it's not always possible to look inside panels etc but be aware of any new paint blown over. Pay attention to the seams above the rear arches, the cab foot steps, around the fuel filler cap and along the seams at the sills on both sides. Just 'cos you mentioned fixer paint that's all.
