1600CT Alternatives

I have a sickly CT with low compression and leaks from I think behind the pulley so going to need looking at. Small amount of end float but not....crazy! That I can tell anyway lol.
So looking at options if my 1600ct isn't cost effective to fix. Does anyone know of a type3 1600 would easily bolt in. I don't see why not as the engine design looks very similar and I'm pretty handy. Just don't want to buy one to find out if that makes sense.
I guess my other option is a 2L type4 but I don't have a very big budget so not sure thats feasible and not sure what complications there are with flywheel gearbox clutch etc. Tx
Ps. Oh and thanks for having me back. Not been here since sold my last T25 in 2012! Back on the square brick road again!
