Fog lamps

Hi

How easy is it to wire in fog lamps?
I have an '86 1.6 turbo diesel from Germany, and I don't want bolt on ones!
I have a switch and some contacts from an old LT35 in the local scrappy, so I can install the bulbs in the light cluster, but I have no idea about wiring! Will I find the relevant conections behind the dash? Or am I going to have to run cables along the underside (connecting to fuse box etc  )?

Cheers

Melvin

do you mean front ones? take a feed from the high beam to a relay that switches them on when high beam on. then run a thick wire to the battery via a switch on the dash which over rides it when you don't want them on. fix an in line fuse and your set. I gues thats how I'd do it.

Actually it's the rear lights, I hadn't even thought about the front  I suppose I'll need to do those too! :(

you don't need front ones, but the rear rhs is required for an mot, if first registered after may 1980.

my personal import also came with no fog lights, so first of all you'll need

1. a UK spec rhs rear light cluster with bulb holder, if you haven't got one
2. a foglight switch, either vw, or from motor factors
3. an inline fuse (ask motor factors what size fuse you'll need)
4. some wire (i used 2.5mm)
5. crimping pliers, spade connecters

then, with a multimeter, or using a bulb and some wire, find an ignition only live from the back of the fuse box..from here connect to inline fuse, then to switch, then to rear light cluster (the white/pale grey wire) insert bulb, and that's it.

where are you?

or you can buy a complete genuine fog light loom from a uk van from me,includes all wires in dash, switch,so you can plug into fuse board and have original wiring, call me if interested,i fit these to all my swedish imports and they work fine,cj.

Cheers for the replies

The rear light clusters on the van have a space for the fog light bulb but were missing the contacts. I've managed to make these up with bits from the scrappy, but I guess there's no wiring in the loom to connect to a switch at the dash.
How much is a wiring loom? And how easy/difficult is it to fit?

I think I have fog lights at the front - at least there are 2 lights which don't do anything when the head lights are on (either full or dipped).
