Hi guys,
Van going for respray, westie club joker 1.6 td.

Stripped off most external bits for prep, and decided to tackle any interior probs (rust repairs, waxoil etc) whilst the chance is available.

Removed fridge/sink unit/side cupboards (not wardrobe thing), removed side card and yellow stuff, didn't look too bad.

Looked down the side between exterior skin and interior paneling where card fits..... WOW

Fair bit of water down this side but towards rear (just in front of rear wheel arch where it gets lower), about 2ltrs of water was sponged out

Thing is, where's the bu**er coming from?

Anyone any ideas of likely places to look for leaks? I can't see anything obvious. Floor looks ok except up against the left edge inner skin, where there is some rust (will get treated) but no holes?
Was wondering about either the rear wheel arch (throwing water inside when in wet) or seams allowing water in?

My intentions are...
Remove and treat interior rust.
Repaint over affected area.
Waxoil as much as possible of the inside whilst everything out (floors coming out as well)
Refit and re-seal windows after respray.
Find where waters getting in and fix it.

So...
Where should I look for the culprit "holes"?
Any tips for treating the rust?
Any other jobs worth doing whilst its stripped down?

Any hints, tips and advice gratefully received

Rear vents are the normal culprit for extra water storage in the rear panels!!!

Well I'll be blowed! I would have thought they were linked to a drain point (Its at this point, the light comes on), ah, perhaps they should have a drain point and it is blocked?

Is this a likely case do you think, or am I hunting in the wrong direction?

Are there any other common possibilities you guys???

On the unit side? Are all the vents for the fridge and whatnot OK? Are your window rubbers looking good or not?

Otherwise the vents may have it, there was something about putting drainholes in, could be in the wiki or have a search in the syncro forum.

I think the vents are ok, but the rear window is looking quite poorly, and is a highly likely culprit. It was just that there was so much water in there that surprised me, I think the rear vents could be worth checking out, but failing that, window is next.

Oh, and I much prefered your more optomistic boozy signature, hope this current one aint gonna be round long (Unless of course, your taking the michael)

Thats a biggy hole in the window seam then!

Got the back left window out and there it was (or wasn't!). 3" hole at front bottom of window frame with similar but smaller at rear. Strangely enough, right above where the 2 ltrs came out

It didnt look too bad from the outside but....
Anyone with similar condition would be worth checkin'. I reckon you could get your hand up inside to feel for it if you needed to.

Apart from this snaget, the respray is going well. Further updates to follow .

It's a common issue I believe, worse in converted panelvans like mine than Westies and the like with their posh window pressings though. Glad to hear it's on it's way to be fixed.
