coolant filling theory

i was thinking that if your van hasn't had the right coolant in and you want to put some in without draining it all first would it be possible to park on a hill facing downward so the expansion tank is higher than the bleeder valve on the rad. open the bleed valve let a liter and a half of water out until the expansion tank is low put a bottle of thick pink coolant in, and repeat until you've put the recommended amount in. then there shouldn't be any airlocks. my theory is that the coolant hasn't quite reached the top of the rad yet because its been put in neat and its allot thicker than the water and when the engine runs after it will mix the whole lot together.

i recon this would take 5 minutes in total to do.

id be interested to know if this would work

:tsk

Thou shallt not mix engine coolants.

Why not drop the lot and start from scratch ... prefferably outside ya neighbour's gaff  :whistle

It will work. I had already changed my coolant and topped mine up like that to get the correct % of antifreeze.

But you just as well drain the lot and flush out with a hose pipe to clean out the old rusty water. Refill and bleed. Its really a pi$$ easy job to bleed.

no probs gary. as far as taking the fork ask rob hell tell you I'm the taker  the only reason Ive been thinking about this is when i changed my core plug last week i had to drain the system down. flushed the system with a hosepipe to get rid of any straying bits of poo and i filled it up with water to check for leaks while the weather is still really mild and I'm waiting on a new adjustable pushrod tube from Germany. so rather than bother a rusty drain hex bolt or disturb a hose i thought i may just do my theory.
like bilbo blue said gary its a pi$$ easy job to do and i urge you to have a go to bond with the van owd lad otherwise ill do it for you. but if you dont trust me im sure one of the girls wont mind showing you
