Hi fellow campers. I have acquired a petrol tachometer but the wiring connectors do not fit.

I have what I believe is the early type.

Here is the tacho

I only have the tacho (see pic 1)

The mesh will not fit on the new clock, also it has a very small connection on it.

Really confused what to do.

Thx

Your van will need a wire from the ignition coil as only the later post 1986 vans with the later oi pressure warning system have it at the edge connector.

In addition to the coil connection you will also need a +12v from the ignition and an earth connection. Both of those are at your connector but you will have to find a suitable way to tap into the wires.

The only way to have the tacho working with your current dash is to wire the tacho using connectors with wire linked to the wires from the coil, 12v and earth using some form of connector block. There is a very long thread ’Replacing the dashboard pcb'. In the electrical and wiring section regards a hardwire PCB kit developed by a member, in that thread you will see details about connecting the later oil pressure pcb (which uses the same pins as on a tacho) using small connectors instead of the vw PCB connector. Its a long thread so just skip through it till you get to the tacho posts, it is around pages 13- 15.

Thanks, AngeloEvs,

I went through the thread:
https://club8090.co.uk/forum/forum/viewt ... &start=240" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Was sort of following, I think its saying that if i buy the kit provided by CHJ, then i could change over to the petrol Tacho as well as change the bulbs to led.

Is that the case. It looks like I would just swap over the green ribbon on the back with his PCB and wires. Is that the case.

sorry, its a little confusing for me. I sort of get it.

Thanks again for your time and patience,

G

I am not sure of the kits are still available. You could send a PM or may be someone knows for sure. I will take a look and see if I can track down those small connectors to slip over the tacho pins. You have the 12v, 0v already and just need a cable from the coil to provide the pulses.

Can't copy and paste the link but go to EBAY, search for 'Dupont single row' and look for eBay seller komodo electronics or search for 'ribbon cable ' and seller Umtmedia as they sell the connectors with cable attached.

I'm also working my petrol tach, and looking for the 3 Dupont connectors to go into the back of the tach. I'm guessing that the spacing of the pins on the tach are not standard, so would just need 3 seperate single female lines, to push onto the tach pins?

Like these:

I've made chj's board, it's the tach part that's a bit fuzzy in the instructions!

The Tacho pins will be the same as the oil pressure DOPs and the CJ kit uses the single female connector so I would use the same for the tacho as shown in your EBAY link.
