My doka has been standing outside for some time awaiting parts, I opened the rear passenger door and noticed water on the floor, lifted the rubber mat and there was a good 1/2" of water! The sliding windows weren't leaking so I guessed it was coming from the C pillar through the vent. Popped out the grommet in the cill at the bottom of the C pillar and loads of water gushed out! Anyone else had this issue? I'll be leaving the grommet out as all that water will cause rust

I was thinking of starting this very thread!
My thought was that water was somehow coming in between the bed and the cab,
draining into the locker box, then seeping into the cab floor..
Next job was going to be remove roll bar and seal all that area,
but though I have been focussed on stopping the water getting into the locker,
(which is just as important anyway) I hadnt checked the pillar way.
My question for a thread was similar, just how many ways in are there?
I am considering permanently keeping a dehumidifier running in there!
Some better understanding of the problem would be great.
Shouldn't there be a drain at the bottom of the pillar like doors/sills have?

There's no water in my locker Tim but I have a Nato canopy fitted, the o/s was facing west so I reckon with the storms we've had the rain entered the c pillar grille. I've left the grommet out at the bottom of the pillar and it's drying out. I will refit the grommet when offroading to keep the crud out! Can't see the grommet in your pic it's under the outer sill unless it's been welded over (seen it before)!

There is a grommet hole on the inside of the sill in that pillar,
seems then that the pillar is not full.

A Nato canopy I guess does fit to the cab,
whereas my tilt just covers the bed,
so I worry water gets down between deck and cab.
Very difficult to stop, or trace.

Digging in now and give it some love.

I see what you mean, a lot of sediment anyway.
This pillar grommet wouldnt hold water very well,
the other side has as you say been welded over,
bless, I may have to drill a hole!

Yep, bore a hole with a cone cutter and leave both sides open should help it dry out, looks a bit scabby in there, maybe have a dig around with a screwdriver to check the integrity of the bottom of the pillar?

thinking about it doesnt get it done,
I couldnt wait to find a cone drill,
so I just put a 10mm hole in.

No water coming out and no crud in there,
probably because it was a very recent repair,
VolksWeld in Redruth, recommended.
Very solid.

Hole allowed a good spray of cavity wax.

Other side will need to get de-crudded before attention.
Do you think I could run water down from the vent..
Is that the vent that would take the air down through the chassis,
for the engine air intake?
If so it might be a good idea to prevent water getting in?
(While allowing the air of course)

So none of todays pottering have got me any closer to working out where the water gets in...
I still mostly suspect it comes down through the bed, into the locker boxes.
They are same level as the floor, and water can so easily just run under the seat.
Also the wet bits of floor are towards the doors, where there are gaps under the seat,
which is more suspect.
If it was coming down inside the pillars, how would it get into the cabin?

The c pillar grille is a throwback to Aircooled models to channel air through the under bed box section to the engine bay, my diesel air intake isn't connected to this (if your's is the rear of the box section isn't blanked off so will still draw air)
I,m convinced unless proved otherwise that rain can enter the vent and can leak into the cab through gaps, rust? in the bottom of the pillar.
I was thinking of sealing the vents with gaffa tape as an experiment, I've googled vent covers with no luck.
What we need is a pickup expert to throw some light on this.

I pumped water in the vent and it seeps out the bottom of the pillar into the cab. Mine is 3 door though so the construction is different.
