Anyone bought a heater fan switch? New one doesn't fit.

Hi Guys
1990 T25.
I've just bought a new dashboard switch body for the 3 speed heater fan, part 171-959-511 - make topran.

The trouble is that the original knob shaft, which is a snug fit in the old body doesn't fit the new body. The knob shaft has 2 flats on the end which won't engage in the new switch.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it this particular make? On two of the VW Spare Parts sites there are a good eight makers of this switch with prices ranging from £2.80 to £11.00. Is there a make that I can rely on which will be an exact copy of the original which I guess was Bosch?

Cheers!
Pete

If your switch is similar to my 1987 DG then they are fairly straight forward to service, easy to dismantle and reassemble - the contacts and the small spring needed cleaning , that was all and been fine ever since.

Use a small screwdriver to prise the body away from the tags as shown and then seperate the two halves.

They are different to the original so you have to use the new knob

Thanks guys for all your replies. My thoughts as follows:

The 's hite' topran unit came from Heritage. It's the only one they sell but I see they do have knobs which might fit. May contact them.

Brickwerks do a cheap one (various manufacturers) and a more expensive one by Febi - out of stock.

Is Febi a good make? If not who?

I like the idea of servicing the old one. I'll give it a try.

Thanks again.
