my mum and dads Y reg T25 used to have a leak at the top of the tank, it was always okay if you only 3/4 filled it.

Check the breather tanks and associated pipework, have a good look round the filler neck and as everyone has said the top of the tank where the huge air ducts would be if it were aircold can go through.

On my 2ltr Aircooled, I changed the pipes in the engine bay coming off the y piece to seperate it for the twin carbs. I also changed all the jubilee clips on the send and return pipes also, and had to trim the ends of the return pipes as they were a little cracked. Some of the breathers and vacuum pipes were also a little, er, knackered so they got done too. And last but not least, where the rubber petrol pipe goes into the carb and attaches to the brass pipe, the brass pipe came out of the carb, so I knocked it-gently-back in.

Caution: If you don't think its from the above tank or filelr region then:

Have someone watch with the engine bay lid off as you start up, particularly the tee on the firewall... Fire Extinguisher to hand of course.
