Eberspacher D2 retrofit

Hi, due to domestic meltdown I may be spending more time in my van this winter! This leads to my query. I have been trying to get information before posting up on fear of repeating questions and getting my knuckles rapped.
I have the original Eberspacher diesel heater in my westfalia 1989 joker and I think it’s seen it’s last. I would prefer to use the underslung location and wondered if it was possible to have a modern airtronic d2 in the same location? Would it require a protective casing? Could I even get it in the original heater’s case? All the plumbing and exhaust are in place so should be a good DIY project. Any advice much appreciated.
Pete

Talk to OBG ( https://club8090.co.uk/forum/memberlist. ... ile&u=7143" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) he is the resident eberspacher man, and I know he has sorted this exact thing before

You would need protection mounting underneath. You can use the D2L box for a heater and keep the original vents under the rear seat but..... You cannot use a D2 Airtronic in the box as they cannot be mounted on their side. You don't really want to try to mount it upright in there either as you would then have the exhaust and combustion air inlet quite low and prone to damage. I can do a kit with a Webasto that will go in the D2L box on its side if interested, price ranging between £285 and £385 depending upon heater used - £385 would be the latest STC model with very low hours use.
They go in the box like this: ( This was the first that was done)
