Hi,
Going to hardwire my Nextbase 420 camera. Was plugged into 12v socket with supplied cable.
Cannot remember what cable(s) came with the camera.
Am I correct to assume that I lop the 12v plug off, add a bullet connector and connect to the piggy back fuse holder that
came with the camera.

You need to check that your camera is indeed 12v. Not sure about your camera, is it a dash cam or a reversing camera? Dash Cams are usually 5v and the supplied cigarette plug houses the 12v to 5v voltage conversion circuit.

It is a dash cam. I have emailed Nextbase but no reply as yet.
The plug has a 2amp fuse in it.

The plug is the voltage reducer.
What you need to do ( if they don’t, or won’t sell you a hard wire kit) is to buy a cig lighter socket and connect it to live that is ignition switch controlled ( there is a spare on the back of the fuse box) and hide it up behind the dash once you have plugged the camera in .

Just remembered. I have already hard wired 'the van' and what I am proposing is for the Golf.
At the moment the camera works off the 12v socket in the car and I just move the camera to the hard wired mount in 'the van'. The wiring, original, has a small 'cylnder' just before it plugs into the camera. Could that be the volt reducer?

As said you cannot just cut off the plug on the original lead.

The small cylinder will be a ferrite core for interference suppression.

Another problem with the hard wiring. Much easier on the old bus.
The Nextbase hardwire kit has to be earthed. There is not a bit of metal in site. Camera is going in a new Golf and everything nearby, incl. fuse box, is plastic. I have to watch what I do 'cos the car is on lease. The nearest bit of metal is a seat runner. Anyone any brilliant ideas?

On my kit there was quite a few feet of wire, you must be able to reach some metal. I am sure mine was around 12 feet or so. The fuse box on my T6 is still screwed to metal so I used that.
Where is the fuse box sited?

Fuse box is behind glove box. Had a look at the link. Where it says remove trim at side of glove box I have an air bag.
All the fuse box etc is plastic. There is one bolt head visible thro fuse board but that is 'non get atable'. Cable length is sufficient but I could extend it if needs.
Tomorrow I will see if there is a way thro to the engine area, for the earth. If not it will have to be the seat runner bolt. I can 'lose' the cable behind door threshold trim. The only other nearer bolts are the door hinges and I don't really want to start loosening them.
