Hi I have a 1981 westy with 2.0 CU engine.
On start up theres a lot of movement in the engine which concerns me.
I'm wondering if replacing the engine mounts will stop this vibrating?

If so is it possible to do with the engine still in place but suspended properly?

Would that be a good time to change the engine seal as the rocking has damaged the seal and is not sealing it to the bodywork anymore.

Hi, is it rattling or shaking, that you experience?

Rattling could mean an empty hydraulic valve that needs to fill up with oil during a short periode after starting. If it's the engine that shakes, that would/could be a nonfunctioning engine mount.
I experienced both: I replaced a partly torn engine mount and the engine stopped shaking. The same for a valve, after replacing the engine stopped rattling. The rattling was very loud and prolonged after a longer period the van wasn't started or used.

Thanks for the response.

This seems to be the case when warmed starting it's fine. But as you have said if left idle for a week or so and then started the engine vibrates and moves a lot on startup.when it warms up it stops slightly but still rattles.

Is it a big job changing the mounts?
