Sliding door came off, door is on, is it safe to drive?

Hi all, sliding door has come off, I’m away in Wales at the mo. Managed to get it in and locked with the mechanism and u piece facing outside the van. Bearing has split in 2 so is kaput. Just wondering if it’s safe to drive and continue my trip? And fix when I get home. It’s on and locked. Don’t t want to lose it on the motorway!

The potential danger is if the door pops open on the catch as they sometimes do when they get old and wear, if it pops open normally it won't fall off but in your case it would.
Perhaps you can strap the door back somehow, maybe take the door card off and rope it to something inside the van?
I carry a spare of this roller now I have seen it happen to somebody.

Thanks, so I assume this can happen even if it’s locked?
It’s a 1990 so not too old and door has never popped open before, but then would I have known? I could rope it up, though. I could rope from outside U piece, over roof rack fake gutters and back down to handle. Might stop it flying off and give enough time to pullover.
I’m also wondering about ordering the parts to be delivered here and just fix it...

Brickwers can deliver next day if you order early.

Yeah thanks, They’re out of stock of the full mechanism...
I hit a speed bump at some speed by accident and the door stayed on so that’s good

All done, bearing and spare arrived today. The ups man recognised us in the camper as we were heading out and we did a drive by delivery while holding up the traffic!. Door is back on and running smooth. Just have a few paint chips from when it came off initially.

Excellent news and well done, no reason why you can't fix problems while on holiday with a few tools and Brickwerks next day delivery
