Looking to buy a gearbox out of an '86 Caravelle 1.9DG, but the code can't be read. Is there a likely 'box it will be fitted with, or could it be anything from the range? I've got the list of codes for all the years of manufacture, and in theory it could be one of quite a few part numbers. It's a five speed, that I'm hoping will go into my diesel camper after swapping bellhousing, input shaft etc.

When you remove the bell housing count the teeth on the crown wheel and pinion that will narrow down the boxes it could be

IS your van a 1981 diesel with an AAZ in it ?
If so which gearbox do you have at present, if it is a DM then you won't be able to fit the gearbox from a later water-cooled van easily as the gearbox you have is based on the air-cooled box. For you fitting a DK box from a 2.0litre CU van will be the best solution
