Hi all I have a 1989 2.1 fuel injected automatic 112 bhp, what would be A the cost, B the expense, C the work involved in changing to a 5 speed manual, what would be the mpg difference cheers Mawsy

I will probably be corrected but I believe not a lot as 4th gear in a 4 speed is v similar as a 5th in a 5 speed. Just lower ratio lower down.

I would think
£1000 plus parts

or if the Auto Box works properly enjoy driving it

I love mine but would never have even entertained an Auto till I drove it.

3-5 mpg worse than manual
just enjoy it and use the grand to LPG it.

ok, sorry, couldn't resist.
I guess it depends why you want to change it and how much work you can do yourself.
personally I don't get on with auto boxes, especially old ones.
If you can live with it and just want to save fuel I wouldn't change it.
If you can't live with it and it doesn't have sentimental value i'd sell it and buy a manual.
If you can't live with it and it does have sentimental value and you can't do the work yourself it's gonna cost you well over £1000
If I'd inherited one with sentimental value I'd do the work myself with donor parts from buying
a manual van and swapping the parts, then selling the donor.
It would be a lot of work and skinned knuckles though and then there's DVLA paperwork to do too, they might want proof of the change.
