Bottom passenger side gearbox mounting stud is missing on a 5 speed abn box. Is there a bolt that will fit instead of removing box and fitting stud?

not on a wbx lower two.are studs
the studs are needed to help align gearbox input shaft to clutch and if you used bolts you would risk damaging the threads in the engine

To answer the question you should not need to remove box to fit a stud.
get two half nuts and lock them together to screw stud in then remove half nuts and fit a full nut.

ah but you can't get a standard stud in because the casing is in the way.

Ok I will believe you I never tried.
if you can't get a stud in logic tells me in you can't get a bolt in either because its the same length with a head on it.
gearbox off then

I’m having trouble finding a stud anyway as they seem to only cover up to 1983 which is an m10, is it different after 1983? I have a friend with a "pooh" load of bolt and studs so I’ll find out soon enough but anyone know right now

HI thanks I found that and asked the question underneath it as it only mentions CU/DG engines, implying there is something different with DJ engines. I'll ring them today.

Yup The database vw heritage states up to 1991 for the m10 stud, they just need to update the page.

you won't need to pull the box right off to fit the stud.
just enough to clear.
