Dynamat vs welding a rib across panels

I have my t25 striped out to do some welding of rust holes. I’m wondering if on some of these panels around the cab area welding a rib of steel across a panel would result in better sound deadening than applying a sheet of butyl like dynamat. Has anyone any experience of this? Having taken the dash out, and rapping on the panels, I’m quite shocked at how much they sound like dustbin lids!
