Hi all!
I bought Libby (1989 2.1 wbx hightop autosleeper) at the start of the year with passed mot. With both rear wheel bearings being on the short list of advisories.
So I booked her in too get them done.
1800miles later after driving with my family down west coast of France down to Madrid, I'm hearing bad wheel bearing noises mixed in with the vibrations!
Thinking it must be one or both of the front bearing, I take it to a garage to get looked at.
Mechanic jack's up front to find the bearings are fine, so checks the rear. OR had inch of play! NR had slight play!
Is this possible? Considering they were meant to have been replaced less than 2k ago.
Questioned the mechanic in England and hes asked me to send the bearings too him so he can try get a refund.
He received over £2k off me for various other jobs.
It's just got me thinking whether he changed them at all?
Any replies would be gratefully received

Do you know the manufacturer of the bearings? Failure within 1 year or a few thousand miles isn't unheard of if the cheaper ones are fitted. A false economy to scrimp on parts when the greatest portion of the final bill is labour. I'm not suggesting this is what you did.

Hi the bearing are meyle. Are they cheapest or just unfortunate theyve
gone?

I stay clear from Meyle parts now after fitting clutch hydraulic cylinders made by them, really poor quality, master leaked overnight all the fluid from the loose seal all over the carpet and I couldn't bleed the slave properly which also had the wrong rubber boot forced on and split. Your old genuine rear wheel bearings would have lasted that trip !

Always check the list - that is what it is there for!

It wouldn't be something I'd look up before getting fixed TBH. I'd lay my trust with the mechanic. But you live and learn, I'm I relative newbie n owned my van for 6months, already know more about the vehical than any other I've owned. But I'm loving it TBH adds to the joy of owning and driving the beast Haha

Most people on here have learnt to not trust the mechanic - it is hard to find a good one for these vans and people are prepared to drive a good distance for that good one.

If you've got a bit of time, and know what's required, then you can always offer to source any parts for your mechanic and then you know they come from a reputable source like Brickwerks.

As others have said, you need to learn to fix what you can.

Can I also suggest you put your location in your signature - you might find there's somebody nearby who has the tools / experience to assist some jobs.

Yeah dont worry I'll be researching all parts before I pop it in the garage, but I am hoping to learn how to do most jobs in the future.
I'm in palencia Spain atm, it was the mechanic here who told me they were meyle and were not good (thank God for Google translate) I had to order them myself in the end because he couldn't could find them!
