We have got our van back from the welder and we’re driving for the first time at night. After a few minutes of having the headlights on we had a lot of smoke coming from under the dash. I turned the engine off and all the power and thank god we did not have a full on fire. I have taken the dash off and it looks like it’s the whole of the blue and grey wire that has melted ill upload some pictures ImageImageImage

Oh dear ! - but could have been worse

I think you need to trace where those wires go from and to, including which fuse(s).

Don't assume anything

Grey/Blue is the instruments lighting, unfortunately, it is not fused on early models it relied on the rheostat in the light switch to absorb any short. But it looks like there has been bodging going on with the wiring judging by the screw connector blocks.
