Flipped gearbox question

Like a lot of folk, I'm thinking of this. I've come across an Audi 'box, code LAU. Prefix of part number is 012. Would this be suitable?

You'd find sticking a DK in a lot easier
Google didn't find that code, is that stamped on the case or cast in, if cast then it's not the code

Yeah, all other things being equal, a DK might be a good choice - but many boxes of that age would surely need a recon by now. Part of the reason for going the flipped route would be so I can install a more powerful motor at some point, and an OE part without substantial mods would defeat the object of keeping things relatively cheap.
Regards the code on this Audi box ... you're right, no info about this. I'll get the guy to try and read a code from somewhere else on the casing.

If it in the car it will be on the build sticker in the boot or in the service book inside front cover for the gearbox code
