2.0l CU Aircooled exhaust replacement options

Hi guys,

I'm replacing my whole exhaust system and considering swapping the heat exchangers for header tubes since I've heard reproduction one's won't last long.

I'd also like to know what silencers people recommend that laast and won't break the bank? Ideally something that will fit straight on without modifying the rear valance.

Any advice and photos greatly appreciated!

Hi, I have an Empi single quiet pack manifold for a 2.0 CU motor on my 1984 1.9 DG (early motor). Same manifold flanges. I have coupled this with a stainless silencer taken from an early Honda 900 CBRR Fireblade. Bolts straight on, no modification required. If you try to fit a standard Fireblade box it will foul your rear valance. (I know i have tried). I used a metal gasket at the joint which i had from working on a Vauxhall Meriva Catalytic Converter. Again, same bolt pattern.Sounds very nice but it was a little loud under load. I then fitted a slip in baffle which made it a little too quiet so i cut off the base of the baffle and drilled out the holes abit. Now it sounds just right. You may get the odd BHP increase, not that you will notice but engine runs a lot smoother with it being able to breathe better. Couple this with a K&N style double cone filter and you have a happy engine.I have had this set up for the last few years and it sails through MOT emissions test. Manifold and end can both bought off Ebay.

If you still have the heating keep it, they are a pain to drive without any heat especially for demisting. The original silencer is actually very good as is a large expansion box better than some of the replacement systems.

I agree with comments on heating. I drove a CU engined panel van for 6 years all year round daily without heating, no fun in winter. Ice on inside of windscreen etc. I find the standard silencer a bit restrictive though. Personal taste I guess.

I've seen the bike silencer on here before. Nice idea but I'm not keen on a side facing exhaust because they blow fumes towards the pavement.

Ive heard the aftermarket heat exchangers rust from the inside and don't last long. Anyone know of some good quality ones?

Thanks!
