Back brakes: basic question.

I just replaced the back shoes. Should both sides of the hydraulic pistons move or just one? On both the off-side and near-side only one end of the piston moves when the brake is depressed. Just wondering if one side of the piston is seized on both hubs. One side is more extended than the other .

They the should both move......... but if there is more resistance from one of the shoes then that side won't move until the other one meets a stop (i.e the drum or a screwdriver)

Thanks carrera. I suspect they are both seized on one side but I'll test it with a screwdrive tomorrow.
