Most economic engine?

Hi, I’m new!

There seems to be plenty of options for replacing the engine in a t25 (1985 mine is) but what is the best for economy and how does that correlate to the easiest to fit....or, what’s the best compromise?
Cheers
Steve

most economic is the one that is fitted unless you are planning on doing mega mileage

Second that.
The total £ & p cost of an engine swap buys a lot of fuel.

Trying to get from, say, 20 to 25 mpg is naff all saving in pence/mile.

£8k of tdi conversion might get you 35mpg but a healthy 2.1 is capable of returning 30 mpg (few would believe me) and I know of one that genuinely returns this.

A good (freshly rebuilt, not recycled) 1.9 should be capable of returning high 20's mpg on a run.
The heavier the van, roofracks etc all knock mpg.
Keep it light, stay below 65 mph ;)

PS a sensible drop of 30-40mm and a front spoiler help both handling and fuel consumption. Not a lot, but it all helps.
