Never heard of a GW engine until today. Out of curiosity are they any good? Can't quite see the point myself when a DJ can be fitted

As far as I know the core WBX engine is the same as a 1.9 DG but the engine code denotes the entire system with fuel delivery and ignition so a DG is with Pierburg 2e3 and a GW is with Digijet fuel injection.

Same internals, same compression ratio, but running 98 RON fuel. That tells me timing is set at 10°, running injection, and look at all the extra power that releases - +12bhp (+15.4%).
It also increases peak torque by 6Nm (+4.25%) achieved at 200rpm higher revs (2800). That suggests better breathing with the larger throttle body, and non-heated plenum and runners giving cooler charge air.
I have wondered for some time what additional power is still there to be released from stock DG internals, with a few top end tweaks. Maybe thinner fire rings to improve squish, match ported and smoothed heads, free-flowing air filter with enlarged ram-air scoop on rear vent, ratio rockers, megasquirt sequential petrol injection with liquid phase LPG, and tuned exhaust. Or just fit an MV.

I've got my bus going in for tuning when she's back from the bodywork shop. Will be interesting to see what she's pushing out after the top end rebuild and speedshop exhaust - i'm running a Weber carb, K&N filter and always run on super unleaded so i'm expecting at least 50bhp

Andrew do you remember you took a DH out of my van when you did the ej20 transplant a few years back? (I sold off the injection parts though). Whatever happened to the block? ( It was chewing oil and dribbling coolant )

I understood that was a dg block , just with dijijet fuel system.

Yes John, I remember it well. It's still sat there waiting but it's an early case so never gets to the front of the queue - everybody wants DJs so the early cases never get used. I have about a dozen waiting patiently...
Even early vans end up with a late case DJ with early cooling system and Laminova oil cooler.

So in answer to the original question (sorry for hijacking), yes. Significantly better than the same engine with a carb and svda dizzy.
On the other side of the same coin - how much power is lost running a DJ on a Pierburg?

True. I've never seen anyone on here talk about beefing up a 1.9 with injection-everyone goes down the 2.1 route. Is that because after the cost of fitting injection, sensors etc it costs about the same? I would really like a bit more oomph out of my engine up hills. I like to camp in wild hilly areas, exactly the sort of places my van struggles laden with tent, mattresses 4 people etc

I saw the injection ancillaries for a 1.9 for sale once as was thinking about buying it, however, the seller was getting rid as he stated that he was fitting a carburetor. As they're now getting on for 30+ years old i'm not sure how reliable/problematic they would be nowadays. There's some details in the description below from GoWesty with regards to the injection system:

If i had the cams available i'd go the DJ route.
