Recommend me a window seal please

Just spent an hour fighting a JK seal for a panel van cut window before giving up.

Yes I know I should know better but I fitted JK years ago and they were fine, I assumed it was just a bit of JK bashing.

So I'm looking for recommendation of a seal somebody has bought and fitted recently?

Can't use my old seal it's too short for some reason.

thanks

Thanks for the tips, seals direct give dims so get my vote.

measuring up looks like the JK one is for a 5mm thick window.

I need to measure up the hole size vs the window size as the old seal has a 5.5mm web and it seems that's quite small and maybe why it would not fit.

C.H. Baines in Tunbridge Wells, original supplier to 'Bilbos' and having used again recently appear to be more flexible than than seals direct that I have tried to use before in the high top. The original Baines seals that I used in 1997 supplied by 'Bilbos' were refitted twice over the years with no issues and only changed last year .not because they leaked but because after the respray they looked a bit aged

Thanks dims are looking more like my old seal than Seals direct but need to measure first.

I think any company who don't give dims don't bother.

I had a measure up and it seems the problem was the inept metal basher who cut the hole and the fact that the seal has a thicker web than the original.

To be fair I think JK's only fault is that they don't give the sizes and imply that one size fits all and it doesn't. The quality looks good and I'd say it's the seal in the link above

This window is an aluminium framed one and so the aluminium is 3mm thick, bodywork 1mm thick

I guess aftemarket glass is typically 4mm ( anybody know?)

looking at the seal the web is the part that fills the gap between the window and the bodywork, if the web is 5mm like my old seal then the hole needs to be 5mm bigger than the window.

other dims on my old seal are 4mm and 2mm for material and 21mm tall

The JK seal is 6mm web ( or maybe 6.5mm) so you don't think 1mm would make much difference but the inept metal basher has the hole down to 4mm bigger in places hence why it doesn't want to fit. Other places it's much bigger.

I can make the hole bigger to solve that...and repaint it, good job I don't need the van in a hurry.

next problem is I can't find any seals that are 1.5mm and 3mm for the material and 20+ mm tall so I'm torn between...

3mm and 3mm

1.6mm and 5mm

I might give seals direct a call tomorrow and see what they recommend.

Never easy is it

Solution from Seals direct was to stick 1.5mm neoprene sheet around the window to pack it out to 4.5mm then use WR62 :ok

Paul, have you tried PM'ing Plasticman to see if has any seals available? He was selling some quite sometime ago for panel van windows and i purchased some from him about 4 years ago - my van's at the bodyshop and i've literally just had a call to say it's ready and was told that those seals were very good (they were re-fitted professionally and the chap apparently said that most he's dealt with aren't great). I'm hopefully picking it up Friday and will be happy to forward any leftover?

Drove to Seals direct and picked up some WR62 and 1.5mm neoprene strip yesterday.

took a couple of small pieces and used then to space the window the right height

Image

then marked the width it needs to be, he height is OK

Image

grinder very slowly or you melt the paint.

deburr, anybody who has never seen these before they are excellent.

next to repaint...
