T25 1.9 petrol ignition module

Today we tried to get a 1.9 water cooled from a T25 running outside of the vehicle to test, It turns over and does all the right things but we have no spark, The module and coils are all present and seem to be wired right as we followed the wires from another T25, But no matter what we tried it has no spark, Any ideas or a link on how to wire the module up? The module has 211 905 351 D on it.

I assume you have and are using the multi connector for the ignition amplifier which is connected to the coil and hall sensor, and the correct dizzy ?

Got a picture of how you have it set up, could be an earth issue

All the bits came from 1 vehicle but it was never running when it arrived, The dizzy was already fitted and wiring that was fitted to the module is now linked to the coil, so we powered it up after cranking the engine over a few times, I had an accuspark plug tester that i fitted to the HT lead by the sparkplug and it never showed any sign of a spark.

I ran a separate earth to the block and direct to the coil and module.

I think you just need to go through the basics then

Is the coil good, right resistances, power to it
HT lead from coil to dizzy OK
Hall sensor working correctly
Known good ignition module
Good earth back to the battery

There's a test procedure for the hall sensor in the Wiki I think

Check you have positive negative and signal ( green) at the distributor

... and why are you providing an earth at the coil, page 3 of the wiring diagram ?

I wanted to do this once but didn’t end up doing it, but I was going to run it on a beetle distributor to make it easier to wire up.

Oh i think i see what you are saying if i am earthing the coil it won't switch?

Yep, if you are earthing the coil then no EM field can build up in the primary windings (LT side), and therefore there's nothing there to collapse in the secondary windings (HT side) when the hall sensor tells it to collapse.

Thanks, very much...now i can see it i have worked it out or at least i can see more chance of why no sparks were happening.. :ok

Well we give it another try today but still no sparks so i am starting to suspect the hall sensor in the dizzy, I will draw out the wiring and post a picture just in case something is missing, I have a running T25 with the same engine and module so i think an option would be to swap bits from mine and try it with a known working set up.

Just to update, The engine fired up today after a few goes and ran ok, It was just due to earthing out the coil and maybe a bad earth,Thanks for all the replies and help from the forum. :ok

Great, thanks for letting us know.

So, big question, is the engine running ok ?
