What diameter are valve lifters

Hello,

Tad confused as to what the standatd diameter of a valve lifter is?

I have a 1600 ct case. The lifters are 24mm diameter. Will type 1, non hydraulic, lifters fit. Are they still 24mm diameter, or is the CT case different as they have hydraulic lifters as srandard...(I think)

Regards

Will do....think its a bit tricky as I guess it might be better on a type 1 engine forum.

Can not believe how hard it is to simply find out the diameter of a type 1 valve follower. [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES].

Will give Sarran a shout. Many thanks.

Haha....I meant the looking I had done online before I tried here. [WINKING FACE].

I have just dug out my "how ro rebuild your volkswagen air-cooled engine" book by Tom Wilson.

Seems

1200 .....lifter bore 19 -19.02 mm
1300, 1500,1600...lifter bore 19 - 19.02mm
Type 4 engine...lifter bore 24mm

So in theory, at least, Type 4 lifters are only ones that fit.

Just thought might be useful to anyone else looking.

Cheers.

So you can fit non hydraulic type 4 lifters

Yes, CT and CU lifters are the same, so you can bodge it with solid lifters.

Yeah...It would appear so. [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

Next question is....if you go for non hydraulic lifters, will that mean you need different length pushrods?

Are hydraulic and non hydraulic (manual) lifters same length?

Many thanks.

I Would expect a difference in length but pushrod can be adjusted

Yes, solid lifter rods are 10mm longer

It has to go bang! That is what makes the wheels go round. :D

Hello,

Sorry I'm late....

I do have an excuse.... :)

Yes, air-cooled hydraulic cam followers, one size fits all... 8)

I would not go down the route of just fitting solid followers onto the original cam...

Solid lifters and tappet lash are used with specific cams for higher revving engines..

Good quality aftermarket ones available

or I must have some good used in stock.

Cordialement,

:ok

Oh.. there is plenty of snow left and the Parisiens have gone..
