Hi. I'm a brand new member to the forum. I'm really interested in buying a t25. But i'm
often described as the son of frank (I'm not very handy with tools haha).

So ideally I would be looking for a garage to look after my van. I will of course be buying the books
and trying to learn as much as I can but at first it will be a case of paying someone to get it up to scratch.

Just wondering if anyone can recommend any durham / north east specialists?

If you’re not handy and are looking for someone to look after it for you I’d buy the best you can afford and ensure it’s garaged. Or maybe buy a bongo.

I was in your position and I now own a mig welder, enough tools to start a garage and spend more time stopping the thing dissolving than I do driving it. Love it though and I enjoy working on it.

Paying someone to look after your van is financially ruinous.

If I’d paid someone to do all the work I’ve done so far it’d be north of 5k I reckon. On a van that’s worth 5k that’s not realistic.

I’ve dealt with most of the ‘specialists’ in the North East and I wouldn’t touch any of them again. Better to balls the job up yourself, at least you save the money and get to learn.

North East Motorwerx in Houghton-le-Spring are good. Gary is a proper mechanic - not a fitter.
Example - the fuel pump was leaking on the van and I looked up possible causes on the internet and most said it was a grommet on a spindle. I took it to an independent Audi/BMW "specialist" in South Shields and they quoted me £600+ for a new pump. I told them what the probable cause was, even gave them a diagram and they said they'd give it a go. They called me a couple of hours later to say that the fuel was now pouring out of the pump and it couldn't be driven - they had to put it on a low-loader to get it back to me.
I called Gary, told him the problem and he said it would be the grommet without any prompting from me, but would come round to take a look first. He came, went away, came back with the grommet and fitted it in half an hour. Charged me £50 (parts were 50p but he had to make 2 visits).

He's also put a skoda AEF engine in the van for me, charged £850 (supply and fit).

Not t25 specifically but HR autos at meadowfield are canny and don't charge the earth. They mainly do land rovers and custom off road stuff.
