Looking for a list of trusted parts suppliers.
Just about to replace a cylinder head and need genuine VW parts where possible.
Been using JK and air-cooled so far....
While i'm here, is it true you have to replace the cylinder head seals on both sides even if you only work on one side?
I replaced the left cylinder head (Brand new from Air-cooled) then 100 miles later she over heated and the right one is cracked and needs replacing.
could it be because of an air pocket in the cooling system?
Should i have replaced both seals on both heads at the same time?
Did air-cooled sell me the wrong cylinder head..maybe a DG?.....if they did, would that cause the right hand side (DJ cylinder head to go?)

I only needed to replace the left cylinder head to get my new exhaust on. it was running perfectly fine but a bolt threaded on wrong caused all this.

I see you edited your op.
Unlikely wrong head fro coolair, late head DG and DJ are same, early DG heads are very slightly different but will not be responsible for leaks.
get a link up to the head and gasket set you purchased.

Amc head is fine
AMC valves are known to be poor quality, ideally use your old VW valves or buy new.
Elring gasket set is fine too, never had a problem with them myself.
I suggest something else is responsible.
who fitted the head?

I should add you can't buy late DG/DJ VW heads new so AMC is what eveybody uses.
There were some NOS early DG heads about but gone now I think.

They sent fitting kit on a seperate dpd van to heater both sent from same place ?
How easy to tape 2 boxes together. Too hard for jk it seems.

I'm guessing there's more to it than revealed here, as changing the head just for that seems extreme. Anyhow, everyone should be aware of the rather useful stepped repair stud from VW Heritage.

That would have been good we couldn't get the broken bolt out of the head, tried drilling it out but no joy.
