Hi all,
our 1.9 DG wbx is getting pretty tired [and I know TIRED! at my age!] and we have somewhere on the driveway a rusting golf GTi [loverly, Y plate] with my own genuine mileage of 69,000 from new on a petrol turbo engine, sweet as the proverbial; also a fiat panda 1.3 [74hp] diesel multijet, 07 plate and we only keep it as it has the only towbar of all the vehicles, high mileage but well looked after -- which would be better/easier install in the Type 25 please? Anyone any ideas or done same before?

Have read EVERY word on here and more, re engines, and no longer trust any bought reCON, such a lottery [which we never do] and being in N Scotland will have problems getting to the likes of Campershack for a rebuild.

As far as I remember a Y plate is 1982, that's a bit too early for a T3 install.
You'd be better off selling the golf and buying VW (golf, passat)-or Seat with an AGG engine.

The fiat will probably need an adaptor plate as a minimum.

y is 2000 model 1.8T; it's a good engine but involved to do at 55 degrees, better done upright - Russel aka 4x4Bus on here can help with that conversion and he is in Scotland S of Edinburgh, he's also on FB

Really helpful advice, as ever -- thanks guys!
It's a shame to mess with the GTi -- yes, it is around year 2000, and the absolute ideal would be to find a mullered engine which could then swap into the GTi and I keep a known v good lump in the van, if it goes in ok.
I'll contact 4x4
The van 4 speed gearbox works reasonably well after q a bit of care over the years, but it is steadily dissolving from the outside due I think to being next to the sea! Another gbox might be an idea, Aidan.
