Are figure of 8 awning fixings the only method of fixing an awning to the gutter rail. Although it threads through the awning it does not clip securely to the guttering, too low an angle it snags on the sliding door when opening and closing to high an angle and it just pulls off, I have tried to secure the awning to the gutter using clips. etc but these still snag on the sliding door any tips please.

A pole and clamp system is fairly common.

A J or C channel extrusion is also popular but these need fitting to the roof (self tappwe/sikaflextype thing)

Suction cups (used with a pole also) - these get a bad wrap as they can pop off in the wind and scratch the paint.

Throw over straps.

Tks, I managed to source a caravan awning with fibreglass poles and clamps which I adapted but are a bit clumsy, cannot use throw over straps due to elevating roof, tks again for feedback.

I use a Stella pole and clamp to fit both my awning or sunshade. Works great even in the wind. I couldn’t get a good tension with anything else. Tried figure of 8 on the gutter, but trashed that idea immediately. Take a look of gogle and loads of info there on pole and clamp.

I have bought a screw on rail which looks like it will go on just above the gutter. The problem is I am not keen on drilling straight into the roof and thought that there might be an option that screws into the rain gutter. I saw the comments about a pole and clamp but am not sure how this would work or fit? Has anyone got any photos? Most of the google ones show it f=drilled and screwed in place and usually to a high top whereas mine is a tin top.

Pole and clamp is far more practical as a small amount of awning can be rolled up before attaching the pole.
this means that you do not need to park in exactly the same place and always have a tight fitting awning.
