Hi all,

need to make my grill black again....seem to remember reading that heating them up works??? Have I finally lost my marbles??? I know I used the hairdryer to remove the decals....but drying the front of the van could incur complete laughter if it doesn't work

both grills have grey bits, and I want them nice and black again......

can I spray them?? what do I need to give them a good key??

have u just tried back to black? thats what i have been using on all not so black bits

Halfrauds satin black.....wash 'em in detergent let em dry....spray

not sure of make without going to garage to look at can. we bought ours in tesco. but halfords, wilko, anywhere like that. its common stuff

satin black exhaust paint,,, thin it down and paint with a brush. works a treat.

satin black (spray can ) from halfwits works a treat, done both mine.

plasticote spray. used it on plastic bits of camper, they look alright. Sir who has to be believed said use any old black spray paint from halfords.

I did mine with Halfwits cheapest matt black paint spraycan - works a treat.

They dont even need primer or sanding - a quick wash to remove the road grease and decaying flies is all you need. Three or four coats - and the grilles need to be sprayed from several different directions to get in all the nooks and crannies.

I read a forum post somewhere that said you can go over them with a heat gun and they'll go black again and that way you don't have to deal with mess or flaking paint. If it works i'd think it was better as it would restore the original materials finish. Might give it a go myself and see what happens.

A fine product worth having a look at is Texture Paint from UPOL , it can be bought from most GOOD bodyshop suppliers.

mmm i'd get a grinder too so you can grind it off as it slides down the bodywork

Try Autoglym 'Bumper Care'. Unlike the back to black type things it is not silicone based so does not go all greasy. It's more like a polish for plastic. Although you do have to keep using it, it does last for several weeks and makes your grilles, bumpers etc nice and black.
Also in the past I have used 'Carplan' satin black bumper paint on the bumpers off a Mk2 Golf. It is brush on and gave excellent results but, bear in mind that your grille is smooth where as the Golf bumpers were textured so any brush marks did not show
