Small piece of plastic in the diesel tank

The diesel tank filler cap lock seized after topping up at the garage, so I bought an ‘emergency’ cap to replace it to get home. After freeing the lock, I tried to get the emergency one out.
Unfortunately, it broke in two and a small piece of plastic on the end must have fallen back into the fuel filling pipe.
Any suggestions gratefully received!

Sell the van :) I would not worry, a bit of plastic will probably float at the top and should not cause you any problems.

Thanks for that  I was just concerned that the diesel might dissolve the plastic and affect something

Have a think
who would make a fuel cap of plastic that disolves in fuel?

The same one who would design a fuel cap to more easily break off in the tank than be extracted?

Good point, alot of plastic products are total crap these days, if you have a piece left over drop it in some diesel over a week or so and see what happens. Even if it did degrade I still doubt it will cause a problem, you can run a diesel on chip fat they are not that fussy.

Unless the fragment sinks and drifts/gets sucked backwards toward the tank outlet...
How big a piece broke off the filler cap?

I don’t think it was much as I have since looked at the other unbroken caps. It looks like a lip of plastic that secured the two pieces broke off.
