Gearbox change - Lost reverse

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the Transporter scene just purchased a 1990 T3 Panel Van with the 2.1 Petrol DJ engine with a 5 speed gearbox.

I have recently changed the gearbox for a second hand one as when I first got it home I noticed a small leak which has turned out to be a hole in the end of the casing!!

The swap was successful (painful) and it goes into gears 1-5 well, but I have now lost reverse. It feels as though I can't move the gearstick over quite far enough to align with the gear.

I have played with the bracket mounted on the gearbox adjusting it up and down but with no luck!

Can someone give me advice or idea what it could be?

I'm considering just taking the thing to a garage for a gearlinkage refurb and re-alignment!!

Thanks

Alex

hi,
have you ensured that you have the linkage bracket on the correct ( forward) side of the flange at the gearbox ?
it makes 10mm id difference to the position of the slection.

Hi Mocki

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the late response - do you mean forward side as in towards the back of the engine or towards the front of the van?

The linkage mounted on the side of the box, I think (will double check tonight) is on the back/left side of the mounting point, so more towards the engine rather than the front of the van if that makes sense?

should be on the side nearest the front of the van
