TV Aerial for Camping

I have a Image 420 TV Aerial and it works ok, though I know if ain't broke don't fix it etc, though I am looking for something a bit more compact, which I could set up quickly, or maybe even inside promptly, as the Image 420 is a bit of faffing around for set up.
I saw the below on Amazon and wondered if anyone used these type of TV aerials before and what they thought?

I have the Avtex STX 3000, I just hang it in the pop top, needs a ciggie lighter socket for power, works as it should.

If it hasn’t t got a built in amp, it’ll be mediocre at best .
Omnidirectional antennas are a compromise for digital tv , magmounted even more so .
Whilst it’s electrical length may be the same as the one you have on your house , it’s physical length is what matters, if you want good, go big !

Ok thanks for the replys, I might have to stick with the Image 420. Never really had an issue with it and keep mine constructed in the van (so just have to erect it in the pole clamp on the roof), tho it's getting bulky to keep in van like that and trod on etc, so may have to find a carry bag for it!

When it comes to aerials size matters, the more elements there are the more gain the aerial has but the downside is the more directional it becomes. An amplifier can make a difference if the signal level is insufficient to drive the TV circuitry but if the signal to noise ratio has fallen to an unacceptable level, most simple amplifiers that don't have complicated filters and will just maintain that signal to noise ratio at a boosted level with some added unwanted noise from the amplifier. The noise that I have referred to in the signal to noise ration is just the electromagnetic background noise from all sorts of sources that exists all around us.

Tech has moved on, I have an amplified flat aeriel which gets power from USB. This powers off the USB on the back Of The TV, a service port in my case.
I have ditched the roof Aeriel's at home as these get better reception.
They are about a five/six quid off eBay

Hi,

We have an Avtex aerial, which can be mounted above the hightop, with which we take pot luck on getting a signal. Some sites fine, others not so.
Saw the above mentioned and thought at that price give it a go.
Tried it out last night at home. TV reception in the van is nil when at home. We live in a village, in a dip, surrounded by trees.
Even the house tv reception struggles when the trees are in leaf. Set it up as per instructions. Put aerial in high top cupboard and.......picked up 23 tv channels.
So looks promising.

Just to say that I bought one that Kentishvanman has linked in his post (and others) and found it gave a better signal strength than my MaxView roof antenna. The USB powered signal amplifier can be used on its own with a conventional aerial and gave even better results, worth buying just for the signal booster if your TV has a usb port...... :D

Well, the answer is... "Ruddy brilliant!"
Tuned TV outside the Tan Hill Inn, perfect reception. Next we were at Irvine Park, perfect again. Now up by Dunoon, faultless picture once more. Well chuffed!
