Blanking off

Hi,
I am going to remove my Flashlube assembly.
I know there is a blanking off seal available, 'cos someone on here told me, but why cannot I just plug the end and add a bit of gaffer tape.
The seal is £4-75p and being mean thought I would save a few pennies.
