Hello, I have just joined this ere forum, but have been browsing for a while.

I have owned a T25 1900 1985 Water Cooled since August 2006, when I first got it, I gave it a little service and noticed oil in the air intake, I cleaned it all up and removed and cleaned the oil breather.

Now it is not idling once it warms up unless it has been driven for 40 miles or so first, it basically stops and bump starts itself when changing gear, and stops at junctions unless I am revving the engine to keep it running.

Is this because oil is going back through the carb? does anyone know what might be causing this oil in the air intake or the idle problem if they are not related? I read on some other forum that blocked, incorrectly connected vaccum hoses can cause oil to go into the air intake, but I dont see how this is possible.

Unless its running with oil it isnt a problem, the crankcase has to beath to somewhere and the air intake is the logical area as the vapours are sucked intot he engine and burnt

If you have a particularly heavy breathing engine than it means its tired.. Does it use much oil?

The running issue will nor be down to the oil.. its more than likely dirt in the carb or poorly set up.. could even be leaks on the system somewhere...

okay thanks... there is oil in the air intake which will run down to the filter.

The problem with the idling seems to have appeared after changing the clutch (obviously not directly related) but i obviously disconnected the throttle cable, leant on, dropped stuff etc around that area. I read somewhere someone saying the let it get warm... remove the air intake from on top of the carb.. rev the nuts off it... then whilst throttle is fully open slam the palm of your hand over the top of the carb!! apparently this can help clear out any jets? or is there a simplier thing to check first? I am interested when you talk about leaks, the exhaust manifold on one side has a 2mm gap when it is not patched up, and also the carb is mounted on rubber, could this be cracked?



and no it uses very little oil, even though one of the pushrob tubes is smothered in araldite (don't ask.. long story)
