Petrol smell from back wheel what the ?

Got back from an hour long drive and filled up the van with petrol. Got home and was giving her a much needed wash and when I got the the rear wheel on the left of the van, drivers side for me as it’s a left hand drive. I started to smell petrol as I bent down to clean the wheel. I went round the back opens up the number plate hatch and no smell I then cheacked the the other underside and no smell again. It’s only under the arch of the back wheel obviously not coming from the wheel or arch but what is there that could be leaking petrol something on the engine possibly. We had a new fuel tank and lines put on last year. The expansion tanks at the front have not been done but no smell from them. I’m a little stumped here or maybe overlooking a vary obvious thing. I did even wonder if I had ran over a puddle of petrol in the station and it got on the wheel?

I had a similar problem. Check the joiner that goes through the bulkhead. The original is plastic/nylon and goes brittle over time. Brickwerks do a stainless replacement.

DG does not have that joiner just the 2,1 but as you said will be a petrol pipe leak.

I’m glad it’s not me just going crazy then. I’ll have a look at that in the daylight sounds about right for the age. We’re off tomoro to the Cotswolds to camp you think we will be ok and not set into a ball of fire

My biggest fear is setting on fire hopefully this won’t be a problem and we can go on our trip and fix it when we get back

Don't take any chances with petrol, plus it is expensive stuff to leak over the road.
Check the valve connection with the engine running to see if it is wet with petrol.

I don't think he was talking about the NRV here on a DG ( pulled through normally behind bulkhead)

I think he was referring to this which a DG does not have only a 2.1

Just because your petrol pipe is 1 year old does not mean its good, often new pipe is sub standard and rots through within a year.
I use Brickwerks fuel pipe 100% ethanol grade
