hi got a 1986 1.9dg the rad fan will not come on when hot the fuse and earths are ok if i pull the plug on the sensor and jump two of the three terminals nothing
(its a two speed) if i put a meter on them there is 12v if i climb underneath pull the plug to the fan and apply 12v the fan works can somebody confirm that this is a sensor fault thanks
just read some more info on this seems like when you unplug the sensor and jump the wires and the fan works its the sensor mine will not so again any other ideas

Your test has already confirmed it.

Can you confirm the fan is not working on either speed ?
Wiring diagram here

Page 13 - daft question first, have you checked the fuse is OK , is making good contact in the fusebox and there's 12V at the fusebox connection ?
(Kev, he's bridged the thermoswitch and the fan is not working)

I'll assume it isn't working on either speed.
Let's focus on slow speed. If you bridge terminals 2 and 3 at the thermoswitch connector the fan should come on slow speed. If it doesn't then there's no current, no earth or the motor is broken.
You've already said that the fan works with direct connection so check the wiring from the thermoswitch connector to the fan and then from the fan to earth. Connector T3 looks a likely suspect.

And particularly with high speed, look above the earth crowns as theres a relay on a bracket. Its fairly common for the connections on it to corrode in a similar way to the earth crown.
